Brothers Matt and Josh Smith have always been go-getters. After graduating from the University of Nebraska—where they both studied business—they each set out to build a career in sales. While Josh started out in wine and spirits, Matt began with a job selling Rubber Maid products. But after building up professional experience, they realized that they wanted something more. That’s when they decided to look into franchising.
Both Matt and Josh were already familiar with the franchising business model—one of their friends owned three Mosquito Joe locations. And while they liked the brand’s concept for themselves, they realized that the pest control industry was already saturated in the Texas market. So they started researching other business opportunities that allowed them to bring something new to their community in Austin and came across Pool Scouts.
“Matt and I have always had incredibly strong entrepreneurial spirits. I think that’s why we were drawn to sales initially—it gave us the opportunity to run our own business in its own unique way. But by working with Pool Scouts, we now have the opportunity to spearhead the growth of an emerging brand in a major city like Austin,” said Josh. “The pool service is industry is severely underserved here in Texas, especially when you consider the level of professionalism that’s often missing from the job. That’s why we’re excited to be the first Pool Scouts location in the Austin market. We’re confident that this concept is really going to take off.”
Founded in 2016, Pool Scouts is backed by Buzz Franchise Brands, the same parent company that’s behind Mosquito Joe. Since first launching its concept, the brand has successfully added three units to its growing network. And with its eyes on further development in key target markets like Texas and Florida throughout 2017, the brand is positioned for a strong year in terms of growth.

As the Smith brothers get their first location up and running, they’re are already thinking about future expansion opportunities. Right now, their territory covers Southwest Austin. But Matt is already planning to run two additional locations in other territories on his own, which could be open for business as early as this summer.
